‘Full of talent’ – Nuno asked whether Scarlett is ready to play at European level

Tottenham Hotspur have now fallen off the top spot in Group G of the Europa Conference League after a 1-0 defeat away from home to Vitesse Arnhem.

The Eredivisie side scored through Maximilian Wittek in the 78th minute, no more than they had deserved from their efforts in front of a sell-out home crowd.

Tottenham, meanwhile, struggled to create chances beyond a second-half shot from Bryan Gil that crashed against the crossbar.

The likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura were left back in London this week with one eye on the London derby against West Ham at the weekend.

Unfortunately, this meant that the Tottenham fringe players didn’t have the big guns to bail them out of trouble as they did against Mura last time out.

17-year-old Dane Scarlett was leading the line for Spurs at the start of the match and one journalist asked Nuno whether the teenager was ready for such a stage.

Nuno replied (Football London): “Dane is 17-years-old. It is tough for him but many of our players when they were 17 were not involved in first-team football.

“He is full of talent, of course, details that comes with experience and experience is when he competes against tough opposition like he did today.”

Asked whether he would prefer a more experienced Harry Kane back-up, Nuno responded: “The squad is what we have and it is my job to take care of all of them, I am not going to comment.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is not too early for Scarlett but, ideally, you want to be introducing him into a thriving team where he is going to get chances to score. That would breed confidence and, of course, goals, just as it did with Kane and the Europa League all those years ago.
