‘Future choices are going to be very easy’ – Mourinho on players letting him down

Jose Mourinho has hinted that certain players let him down tonight against Royal Antwerp and that the performances would influence his future decisions.

The Special One named a much-changed line-up for the trip to Belgium, although the firepower of Heung-min Son and Harry Kane was kept on the bench.

The likes of Dele Alli, Carlos Vinicius, Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, and co were given a chance to impress against Antwerp.

Unfortunately, Spurs went into the break 1-0 down and Vinicius, Dele, Bergwijn, and Lo Celso were immediately hooked.

Defensive mistakes littered a lacklustre Spurs performance, with both Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez looking far from solid in the centre of defence.

Mourinho spoke before the game (BT Sport – 29/10/20 at 17:30) about giving Bergwijn and Dele the chance to take an opportunity with both hands, a phrase he used again after the full-time whistle.

Only this time, Jose claimed that his future choices would be very easy (Football London): “You know what our best team is. I always like to think the players deserve an opportunity. We have a big squad. It’s also their opportunity to catch the chance with both hands and ask for more. Tonight my future choices are going to be very easy.”

On Dele Alli, he added: “I don’t want to analyse individually. It’s fair to say that players with bad performances influence the team but also a team influence individual performances. It’s not for me to individualise and brings some names to the table.”
