Harry Redknapp singled out centre-back William Gallas for special praise after the former Arsenal defender kept the captain’s armband following Saturday’s win against the Gunners.
Gallas was again defensively very sound in the 3-0 win against Werder Bremen on Wednesday night.
“It was a good performance tonight,” said the Spurs boss. “We didn’t get stretched defensively but when we did I think William Gallas was outstanding. He has brought an awful lot to the team.
“There were some great performances from everybody and I’ve been delighted with all of them.”
