Rather worryingly, Trippier went off injured, because he was a breath of fresh air. Granted it’s unfair to compare the role of a full back working under the pressure Aurier was forced to withstand on Sunday with the wide open spaces Trips was able to run into and deliver crosses from. However, he did look good. Surely he’s back for a while - please?!

Match Summary

It was a tepid affair. Let’s face it after Sunday’s trauma it was just what the team needed in terms of rehab. Southampton were so tentative that Spurs grew increasingly sloppy, finally – with a three goal cushion – relinquishing the contest entirely, allowing Southampton to pass prettily in front of them. The goal was somewhat inevitable and who would begrudge Southampton the consolation?

The result, coupled with Chelsea and Arsenal’s inability to get three points in their respective matches last night means that Tottenham move up to third in the Premier League table.

Next up is a trip to Leicester City on Saturday evening.
