Gareth Bale and Joe Rodon pick their ultimate five-a-side Spurs teams

Gareth Bale and Joe Rodon took part in a live Q & A in Tottenham’s official Twitch channel, with the Welsh pair answering a series of questions sent in by Spurs fans from around the world.

One of the most interesting questions that they were asked was to pick their ultimate five-a-side Tottenham team from the players they have played with in lilywhite.

Bale, in particular, was spoilt for choice, having played with the likes of Ledley King, Luka Modric, Rafael Van der Vaart, Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, Jermain Defoe, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen during his first spell at Spurs and now shares a dressing room with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

However, King, who is now part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff at Spurs, was the only player Bale picked from his team-mates during his first spell in North London.

The winger said: “I’d go Hugo in goal just because he’s the best I’ve seen in a Tottenham shirt because I’m 31 and I’m not that old.

“I would go Ledley King at the back just because he’s the king and he was the best centre-back I’ve ever seen. If it wasn’t for injuries he would have been the best in the world no doubt.

“I would go upfront Harry for the amount of goals he’s scored and he’s an amazing player. Then I’d go me and Sonny beside him.”

Rodon also had a place for Bale and Kane in his team but the defender also included Serge Aurier and Tanguy Ndombele.

He said: “I’m going to go with players since I’ve been here.

“Obviously I’ll go with Hugo in goal, as Gareth mentioned he has been a massive player for this club. Very good shot-stopper as well.

“At the back, I’m going to go with a skilful five, I’ll go with Serge, as I want to attack and not be defensive, as my defender.

“I’m going to go with Tanguy Ndombele in there because his feet are unbelievable. I’ll go with Gareth also and H as well. Just pure goals.”

On hearing Rodon’s team, Bale had a change of heart and decided to put Ndombele into his team as well.

The 31-year-old joked: “I’ve only got five and I feel loyal to Sonny and H. I’ve got to see them tomorrow.

“Actually I’d take myself out and put Tanguy in. I’ll be manager.”

Spurs Web Opinion

When people pick five-a-side teams, they often go with the best players at the club rather than potentially thinking who would be a better fit for a five-a-side game. From the players I have seen play for Spurs, I would pick Lloris, Vertonghen (because he is better on the ball than King), Dembele, Modric and Robbie Kane (because of his work rate and movement).
