Gareth Bale reveals he plans to go back to Real Madrid next year

Gareth Bale has revealed to the Evening Standard that he plans on returning to Real Madrid next season despite currently being on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Welshman is currently with his national side ahead of World Cup qualifiers and he claimed that he wanted to come to Spurs this season to play football and go into the 2020 Euros match fit.

However, he said that the original plan was only to stay at Spurs for the one season and he still intends to return to Spain come the end of the current campaign.

It was a slow start for Bale in his return to North London but the grind to get back match fit has seemingly been worth it, with the winger now having scored 10 and assisted three in 25 games for Spurs this season (TransferMarkt).

Bale said (Standard): “There’s no distraction for me.

“I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost.

“Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid.

“My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

One could argue that, with the 2022 World Cup next year, Bale may also want to remain match fit if Wales qualify. I could see him returning to Spurs for this purpose.
