‘He has stuck his neck out’ – Gareth Bale’s agent praises Daniel Levy ahead of Spurs return

Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett has admitted that the Welshman has a point to prove as he gets set to return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale will reportedly arrive on a season-long loan deal with Real Madrid reportedly paying a significant portion of his wages.

The Welshman, along with his Real Madrid teammate Sergio Reguilon, are expected to finalise their respective moves today (Sky Sports).

The deal seems to have progressed very quickly over the last few days since Spurs’ approach was reported earlier in the week, and Barnett has admitted that Bale wanted to come back as soon as he heard of the Lilywhites’ interest.

In an interview with The Telegraph, he said: “When Tottenham came calling it was where he wanted to be.

“It (the move) is good for Gareth and obviously I hope it’s good for Tottenham. My main concern is Gareth and hopefully, he will get some happiness back in his life.

“Gareth is the most successful footballer ever to leave these shores and maybe even the most successful British footballer ever. You are talking about someone who has achieved everything.”

Barnett also admitted that the four-time Champions League winner is keen to prove that he is still among the best in the world.

He said: “[Bale will decide how to end his career] once he gets his happiness playing football back. What happened at Real Madrid was unfortunate for many reasons and now he wants to show the world what a great player he is – he is undoubtedly one of the best in the world.

Barnet also credited Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for managing to get a deal for Bale over the line.

The 70-year-old added: “He [Levy] has stuck his neck out. He’s done bloody well.

“You have got to give him credit and admire his guts. He has put his money where his mouth is.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I was sceptical about whether Bale would ever come back as he did not look like he had the drive to prove himself again in the Premier League. However, it is clear that the 31-year-old seems to have pushed for a move to Spurs, which suggests that he is motivated to come back and prove his critics wrong. If he can stay fit through the season, there are no limits to what we could achieve with a front three of Kane, Son and Bale.
