Gareth Bale’s agent speaks on former Spurs star’s time at Madrid and future plans

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted the Welshman has not made a decision on his future yet.

There were reports back in February that Bale could return to Tottenham for a third spell when his contract with Real Madrid runs out in the summer (El Nacional).

However, The Evening Standard subsequently claimed the winger is not considering a return to North London and he could instead hang up his boots at the end of the season should Wales not qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

According to Sport, AC Milan have contacted Bale’s entourage over a potential move to the San Siro next season.

Barnett has now stated that his client has not yet finalised where he will be playing his football next season.

He told Spanish TV station Deportes Cuatro (as relayed by The Daily Mirror): “Bale deserves a grand farewell from the club. And no, we have not yet decided on the future.”

Barnett also took a swipe at some of the criticism aimed at Bale during his time in the Spanish capital, insisting that the former Tottenham man has always been happy in the city.

He added: “He speaks Spanish. What happens is that people who do not know him say that he does not. Stupid and ignorant people who have not spoken to him. It’s a shame.

“He has always been very happy in Madrid, he arrived as a young man, his children were born in the city, he has donated a lot of money to Spanish hospitals for Covid and he loves the city and the club.”

Referring to the Spanish press labelling Bale a ‘parasite’, Barnett added: “I think the parasites are the ones who speak ill of him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bale’s return to Spurs was not the fairytale that many of us hoped it to be due to the Welshman’s strained relationship with Mourinho and the fact that there were no fans in the stadium.

So, I can see how some fans are clinging to the idea of the 32-year-old returning. However, that ship has now clearly sailed and we should be concentrating on signing players for the future this summer.
