Gareth Bale’s agent suggests he could return to England this summer amidst Spurs links

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has suggested that the Welshman could return to England once his contract with Real Madrid runs out this summer.

There were reports back in February that Bale could return to Tottenham for a third spell when his contract with Real Madrid runs out (El Nacional).

However, The Evening Standard subsequently claimed the winger is not considering a return to North London and could instead hang up his boots at the end of the season should Wales not qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

The 32-year-old is also rumoured to be a target for AC Milan (Sport) while a move to the MLS has also been mooted as a possibility for the former Tottenham man, with DC United credited with an interest in him (Steven Goff).

Barnett has now revealed that Bale will not make a final decision regarding his future until Wales’ World Cup qualifier in June but added that a return to England is on the cards for his client.

He told Portuguese publication Record (16/05/22 – as relayed by The Mirror): “He (Bale) leaves Real Madrid, but we have to wait for what Wales will be able to do.

“It all depends on whether Wales qualify for the World Cup, then we will make a decision, which may vary whether or not Wales go to the World Cup.

“Is he more likely to return to England? I think so, but we’ll have to wait and see if Wales qualifies for the World Cup.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Reading between the lines of Barnett’s statement, it sounds like Bale might hang up his boots if Wales do not qualify for the World Cup.

If the Dragons do qualify, it sounds like the 32-year-old will want to get some football under his belt to keep himself fit for the competition.

Either way, I do not expect Bale to return to Spurs for a third spell as I do not think his body would be able to cope with the physical demands of Conte and his coaching staff.
