Gareth Southgate provides update on Dier injury

Tottenham Hotspur are well-represented in the England squad this month, as usual, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier and Eric Dier included.

Gareth Southgate chose to start Dier, Alli, and Kane in the 5-0 EURO 2020 qualifier last night against the Czech Republic.

These three stars have all suffered their own injury problems this season, with Alli and Dier both only just back from respective issues.

Dier has been in and out of the Spurs squad since early December, when he was forced to drop out to undergo surgery to remove his appendix.

He then picked up multiple illnesses, including a nasty bout of tonsillitis that kept him out of the match day squad until recently.

Dier made his first start in months in the 2-1 away loss against Southampton last time out.

However, the midfielder only made it little over 15 minutes through the England match last night before leaving the field of play due to a muscular injury sustained in a tackle.

Southgate has updated (SkySportsNews): “I think he will go back to his club. Hopefully not to serious, bit of a muscular injury but he won’t be right for our second game.”
