Garth Crooks hails ‘superb’ Tottenham player for performance against Leeds

Garth Crooks has named Dejan Kulusevski in his team of the week, stating that the Swede proved to be the difference for Tottenham against Leeds upon his return to the starting eleven.

Kulusevski had started the season in fine form, carrying on from where he left off last season but he spent more than a month on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem sustained while on international duty.

Tottenham had a massive dip in form when the Swede was out of action and he has shown since his return just what the Lilywhites have been missing in the final third.

Kulusevski caused Leeds all sorts of problems down the right on Saturday, playing a hand in two of Spurs goals, including laying Rodrigo Bentancur’s 83rd-minute winner on a plate for the Uruguayan.

Crooks admitted that he was unconvinced by the performance of Antonio Conte’s side against Leeds but lavished praise on Kulusevski for the display that the winger delivered on Saturday.

The former Tottenham forward wrote in his BBC Sport column: “Leeds United cannot be expected to score four goals to get a point away from home and five to win a match. They were the demands imposed by their defence on their strikers against a Tottenham side full of errors.

“Spurs have not played well since their defeat at the Emirates against Arsenal, although they have been picking up points. However, the return of Dejan Kulusevski to the starting line-up after injury has given the team a touch of quality in the most important areas.

“The 22-year-old Swedish international set up two superb goals as he continues to prove to be an invaluable addition to a very unconvincing Tottenham team at the moment.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I thought Tottenham’s general performances over the last few weeks have been good, even though results have not gone our way.

Despite the inconsistent results over the last month, I am now much more optimistic than I was following our defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford as we have since shown more strings to our bow.
