Garth Crooks names one Tottenham player in his PL Team of the Week

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has named Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane in his Premier League team of the week for his performance in the Boxing Day clash with Brentford.

It’s been a long wait, but the domestic season resumed in style with plenty of goals and drama, as Premier League stars returned to action after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

For Spurs, a trip to the Brentford Community Stadium proved to be a tricky obstacle to overcome, and the two teams had to settle for a point each.

The game saw the Lilywhites concede first for the ninth consecutive game, and things got even worse when Ivan Toney doubled the Bees’ lead after 54 minutes.

As usual, Tottenham found a way back into the game thanks to a fine header from Harry Kane, his 13th league goal of the season (Transfermarkt). The comeback was completed when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg applied a cool finish to a loose ball in the box, but Spurs could not find a winner.

It was another strong performance from Kane, and one which Garth Crooks deemed worthy of his team of the week.

On Kane, Crooks said: “Thank goodness Harry Kane came back to work looking like something that resembled a top-class player after a challenging World Cup.

He added: “The England striker’s superbly headed goal was only matched by his ability to put his missed penalty against France in Qatar well and truly behind him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We didn’t see many performances throughout the Spurs team to be happy about on Monday afternoon, but Harry Kane was his usual, exemplary self and took his goal really well. His teammates need to step it up quickly if we are to compete in the top four this year, as Kane cannot be expected to do it all himself.
