Garth Crooks names three Spurs stars in his team of the week – No Heung-min Son

Garth Crooks has named Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski and Matt Doherty in his Team of the Week after Tottenham’s clinical win over Leeds United on Saturday.

Doherty replaced Emerson Royal in the starting eleven at Elland Road and the Republic of Ireland international showed the marauding qualities that made him such a potent goal-threat from wing-back during his time at Wolves.

The 30-year-old opened the scoring for the away side with an accomplished finish after getting on the end of a Ryan Sessegnon cross before picking up an assist for Kulusevski’s goal.

Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column about Doherty and Tottenham’s win: “I haven’t a clue which Tottenham I’m watching at the moment.

“Is it any wonder Antonio Conte is threatening to walk out of the club on a Wednesday night after their shocking defeat at Burnley, only to find himself rowing back from his comments on Saturday, after a superb win against Leeds reminiscent of the one against Manchester City.

“Meanwhile, Matt Doherty, a player Conte never signed, had an outstanding game. The Republic of Ireland international was full of running throughout this fixture and made up phenomenal ground in order to finish a superb run by Ryan Sessegnon.”

The former Spurs striker also admitted that he is starting to grow fond of Kulusevski and raved about the manner in which the Swede took his goal at Elland Road.

Crooks wrote about Kulusevski: “I said when I selected this kid for my team last week that he looked very comfortable in a Tottenham shirt. Well, he’s rapidly becoming a favourite of mine. The way Dejan Kulusevski took his goal against Leeds was just pure class.”

Unsurprisingly, Kane also make Crooks team of the week after the striker delivered another masterclass against Leeds, taking his goal expertly and playing one of the passes of the season to find Son Heung-min’s run for Tottenham’s fourth.

Crooks wrote about Kane: “The ball from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was just fabulous, but the finish by Harry Kane was even better. Kane’s vision is only matched by his touch and quality of pass.

“This player when he is on top of his game has everything. The pass for Son Heung-min was just wonderful, while the South Korean international gratefully accepted the gift from his striking partner.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is still early days, Spurs fans should be really excited about Kulusevski and the kind of player he can evolve into.

The Swede might lack the raw pace necessary to run in behind the opposition backline but he is excellent in one vs one situations and has proven to be competent at playing with his back to goal.

He also knows where the back of the net is and seems to possess the calmness that one finds in clinical goalscorers.
