Gary Lineker reveals Tottenham man is a ‘different person’ off the pitch

Gary Lineker has revealed Antonio Conte is a more relaxed character away from the football pitch after spending some time with the Tottenham head coach.

Conte has been leading the charge at Spurs since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout in November, with the club still firmly in the fight for a Champions League place.

With four games of the campaign remaining, the N17 side are just two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, with both teams still due to meet in a week’s time.

Tottenham’s position has been inspired partly by the charisma of Conte, who has often been seen prowling the touchline and barking out words of encouragement to his players.

Club top-scorer Heung-min Son recently revealed to Stadium Astro just how passionate the Italian is, claiming he is ‘always shouting’ during Spurs training sessions.

But Conte’s intensity during matches does not match up to his personality off the pitch according to former Spurs striker Lineker, who says the Italian is a ‘different person’ away from the game.

Lineker told the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast: “Antonio Conte, he’s one of those. I’ve met him and he’s really sweet and soft-spoken, but on the touchline. I remember him saying to me, he just completely turns into a different person.”

Having a manager that is so committed and passionate like Conte should definitely help the players in terms of maximising their performances out on the pitch.

But as Lineker has revealed, he seems to be pretty approachable off it which is just as important in building a strong rapport.
