Gary Lineker reveals why Man City star asked BT Sport for footage from a Spurs game

Gary Lineker has revealed that Manchester City forward, Raheem Sterling got in touch with BT Sport before the Champions League round of sixteen clash against Real Madrid to ask for the video of their loss against Tottenham last season.

Tottenham overcame City in dramatic fashion in the quarter-finals of last season’s competition as VAR intervened to deny Pep Guardiola’s men a late goal and ensure that Spurs progressed on away goals.

City have again booked their place in the quarterfinals of this season’s competition with a 4-2 aggregate win over Madrid, with Sterling getting on the scoresheet in their second leg win on Thursday.

It looks as if the England international used the heartbreak of last season to motivate him to overcome Los Blancos.

Speaking after City sealed their passage into the next round, Lineker revealed the special request that the 25-year-old made ahead of the game.

Speaking to BT Sport (BT SPORT 1 HD 7/8/20 from 19:00 as relayed by The Daily Mail), the pundit said: “I don’t know whether I’m supposed to share this or it’s supposed to be a secret from Raheem, but he actually got in touch with BT to ask for the video of last season’s game against Tottenham Hotspur that they lost.

“Not just to see his performance but he wanted to get that feeling back of losing and what it meant, which just shows you how much thought goes into his game. He wanted to make sure it didn’t happen again.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One has to appreciate Sterling’s mentality as it is clear that he did not want to repeat the mistakes he made against Spurs last year. This is how Mourinho would preferably want our players to react to setbacks.
