Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter during yesterday’s match against Norwich City.

After taking the lead on 18 minutes through Mario Vrancic, the Canaries thought that they had doubled their lead when Teemu Pukki was adjudged offside by the narrowest of margins.

After being awarded the goal, VAR ruled that Pukki’s arm was millimetres ahead of Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.

The call proved to be crucial for Jose Mourinho’s side who would have found themselves 2-0 down ahead of the half time interval.

Spurs came from behind twice in the match to level through a Christian Eriksen free-kick and a late Harry Kane penalty with the North London side once again passing up the opportunity to move into fourth place in the Premier League table.

The VAR decision was correct to deny Norwich a second.  Spurs have found themselves in a similar position on more than one occasion this season with Heung-mn Son at Leicester and Harry Kane on Boxing Day against Brighton.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. No it wasn’t right, neither was the one against Spurs. It is ruining the game because someone’s foreskin is longer than another player’s. Condoning it because it happened to Spurs does not make it right and shows you don’t love the game, you are merely petulantly selfish. Any call that close should be immediately dismissed. It is a farce across the board and should be labelled as such. Use your platform to get this removed from the best league in the world (which got there without VAR), not act like a child.
