Gary Lineker takes to Twitter to make Spurs joke after Barca’s humiliating defeat to Bayern

Gary Lineker has joked that Tottenham Hotspur are as good as Barcelona after the Catalan giants became the latest side to be trounced by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Tottenham’s 7-2 defeat at the hands of the Bundesliga side back in October came as a shock and proved the start of the end for Mauricio Pochettino’s time at Spurs.

Despite the game being quite even in the first half, Bayern were at their clinical best in the second half as the made the Lilywhites pay for each one of their mistakes with former Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry bagging four.

However, Hansi Flick’s side went one better in the quarter finals on Friday as they put eight past Barcelona.

In fact, Bayern were even more dominant against the Catalans than they were in North London, as the Spanish giants struggled to handle their pace, strength and movement.

Bayern’s thrashing of Barca even got some Spurs fans to reconsider if their 7-2 defeat earlier in the season was as bad as it was made out at the time.

When the La Liga side conceded their seventh goal, Lineker took to social media to joke that Spurs were as good as Barca, only to correct himself after Marc-Andre ter Stegen was beaten for the eight-time on the night.

Bayern have a ruthlessness about them whenever they smell blood, which is why they seem to so frequently hand out thrashings when they are on top. In fact, I actually thought we fared much better against them than either Chelsea or Barcelona did, and the 7-2 scoreline back in October flattered them a lot.
