Gary Neville has claimed that, just like Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, Son Heung-min does not get the credit he deserves and flies under the radar.
Son has continued to improve every season since arriving at Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015.
The South Korean finished as the joint top scorer in the Premier League last season, along with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, despite not being Spurs’ designated penalty taker.
On the back of that achievement, the 30-year-old is finally being acknowledged as one of the best players in the Premier League and beyond, even making the 2022 Ballon d’Or shortlist (90Min).
Son will be hoping to post similar numbers this season and help push Tottenham on to bigger and better things.
Neville believes that like Iniesta, Paul Scholes and David Silva before him, the Spurs forward does not get the headlines he deserves because of his unassuming character and the fact that he plays alongside another world-class player in Harry Kane.
The pundit said on the UMM YouTube channel: “Understated not underrated. I’m trying to think of a player, it’s like Iniesta or Paul Scholes, they have that manner about them.

“David Silva, he was a world-class player who was unbelievable for Manchester City for 10 years. Son is an unbelievable player, world-class, but he’s understated, he doesn’t grab the headlines and he’s got Kane next to him. He’s understated not underrated.”

I can see where Neville is coming from. Iniesta would have received much more praise and would be included more often in discussions of all-time greats if he did not have Xavi alongside him.
The same can be said of Son as the South Korean would arguably be an ever bigger superstar if he was at a club where he was the main man upfront.
