Gary Neville explains why Tottenham will eventually ‘get found out’ by rivals

Gary Neville has said that Tottenham Hotspur cannot compete with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal over 38 league games, suggesting that the wheels will eventually come off.

It is fair to say that even the most optimistic Spurs fan would not have expected the club to start the campaign as well as they have, given that the Lilywhites are at the start of a new project under Ange Postecoglou and had lost their record goalscorer, Harry Kane.

However, eight games into the campaign, Tottenham sit at the summit of the Premier League table, having won six and drawn two so far.

The most encouraging thing about the start has not been the results but rather the performances, with the Spurs players appearing to have adapted seamlessly to Postecoglou’s system.

Are Tottenham actually in a title race?

Their impressive start to the season has seen some in the media question whether Tottenham can potentially even push for the title (talkSPORT) but Neville believes that they simply don’t have the squad depth to do so.

The pundit bluntly stated on the Gary Neville podcast: “I don’t think Tottenham can stay in it over a 38-game season is my honest opinion.  I think the squad will get found out in the end.”

Neville’s point is a fair one as our squad depth is a matter of concern, particularly at centre-back as an injury to Van de Ven or Romero could really cripple us. Postecoglou would be hoping that both players can remain fit until the January window so that the depth issue can be addressed in that area.
