Gary Neville has been ‘really disappointed’ with ‘exceptional’ Spurs player

Gary Neville has admitted that he has been disappointed with Son Heung-min’s performances over the last couple of months.

Son started the season on fire as his incredible partnership with Harry Kane propelled Tottenham to the top of the league.

Much like the rest of the Spurs team, the South Korean has struggled with inconsistency since the turn of the year.

The 28-year-old has undoubtedly still had his best individual season since arriving at Tottenham back in 2015, having scored 17 times and provided 10 assists in the Premier League so far.

However, his recent downturn in form has led to some contention about whether or not he deserves a place in the Team of the Season.

Neville and Jamie Carragher both picked their Teams of the Season on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football and while Kane made both their teams, the former Manchester United man decided to leave Son out of his eleven in favour of Marcos Rashford.

Regarding his pick, Neville said: “I had Son in at one point, I just looked at the numbers, but then I thought – do you know something? The last couple of months, and I love Son as a player, but the last couple of months he’s really disappointed me.

“I can’t get that Carabao Cup final out of my head. I just thought they were really disappointing Spurs, and it just carried with me.

“He’s a brilliant player, exceptional talent, but I changed him at the last minute.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no question that Son’s levels have dropped over the last couple of months but the South Korean has always been a player who does well in streaks rather than someone who performs consistently throughout the season. He reminds me a bit of Jermaine Defoe in that respect.

However, I would argue that he still deserves to be in the Team of the Season as he has 27 goals contributions in the league so far.
