Gary Neville thinks one Tottenham player has now got ‘his spark back’

Gary Neville has praised Son Heung-min for his performance against Manchester City, suggesting that the South Korean showed signs of being back to his best.

Son’s struggles this season have perhaps been one of the main reasons that Tottenham have not quite lived up to expectations so far, with the 30-year-old having found the back of the net just four times in the league – a far cry from last season when he won the Golden Boot.

However, the forward showed signs of finding his scoring boots in Tottenham’s FA Cup win over Preston North End a little over a week ago, producing two brilliant finishes to send the Lilywhites on their way to a 3-0 win.

While Son did not get on the scoresheet against City, he looked extremely threatening all game and made direct runs through the heart of City’s midfield and defence on multiple occasions.

Neville insisted that it was the best performance he has seen from the Tottenham star so far this season.

The pundit said on The Gary Neville Podcast (05/02/23): “It’s the best I’ve seen Son today. I thought that he just looked like he’d lost a little bit of something.

“He’s played a lot of football and he’s been at a high level for so long, you can have a dip, but I thought that today, he’d got a bit of his spark back.”

There are already signs that the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma (who is at his best on the left) has sparked Son into action as he has delivered two of his best performances against Preston and City.

While Conte might have ideally preferred to sign a right-sided attacker in January to replace Gil, the Dutchman’s arrival could prove to be a blessing if it gets the best out of the South Korean over the next few months.
