Gary Neville waxes lyrical about Tottenham, Poch, and their transfer policy

Tottenham Hotspur famously broke records before the season even kicked off this year, all by refusing to dip their toes into the transfer market.

Spurs became the first Premier League side in history to fail to purchase a single new player in the summer transfer window.

Since joining Spurs, Pochettino has only actually spent a net sum of just under £30m on players.

Using this tiny budget, he has qualified for the Champions League for three seasons in a row, as well as finishing in the Premier League top three.

The one thing missing from the Tottenham cabinet and Pochettino CV is a trophy however.

The last piece of silverware that Tottenham won was the League Cup back in 2008, after defeating Chelsea in the final.

Gary Neville has been speaking about how impressed he has been with the work of Pochettino, and what he believes will take Spurs to the next level.

The Express report he said: “We’ve said it over the past two or three seasons, they do have consistency because of the fact they have not entered the transfer market.

“That has been a positive for them. Maybe at times earlier in the season we were questioning whether not signing players, not getting the new stadium right and all those sort of things, they were putting question marks over this Tottenham team.

“But they have actually answered them.

“I think Mauricio Pochettino’s job is sensational, I really do.

“Last week against Chelsea they just blew them off the pitch and I do think Tottenham will beat Arsenal.

“This Tottenham team need a trophy. They need something to show for all their efforts.

“They just need a trophy. The Premier League is probably a step too far for them.”
