Genoa CEO reveals price tag he put on Albert Gudmundsson’s head in January amid Spurs links

Tottenham may need to pay a huge fee to land Albert Gudmundsson as Genoa CEO And Blazquez has now revealed that the club turned down a big offer for the attacking midfielder in the January window.

If you have been following Spurs Web’s coverage, you will be aware that several Italian outlets have named Tottenham as the front runners to secure Gudmundsson’s signature this summer (Primo Canale).

The versatile attacker, who has been one of the standout players in the Serie A this season, is also said to be on Inter Milan’s radar but it has been suggested over the last few weeks that the Nerazurri are fearful that Spurs would blow them out of the water financially in the race for the 26-year-old (Inter Live).

The Iceland international threw a big transfer hint last week by thanking the Genoa fans for their support over the years and admitting that he is trying to enjoy every moment at the club (Sport Mediaset).

Genoa turned down a Gudmundsson bid in January

However, Blazquez has now asserted that Genoa will not let Gudmundsson leave on the cheap, revealing that the club had quoted €40m (£34.2m) to Fiorentina when they tried to sign the player during the previous transfer window.

He told Il Secolo XIX (via FC Inter News): “I said to Fiorentina: ‘I’ll tell you a price so you understand that we don’t want to sell it: €40m. We received the offer and it took me three minutes to say no, there I thanked him but said no. I know they insisted a lot with Albert.

“He came to us and I told him clearly: ‘You are too important for us. We can’t sell you, you give us the chance to get into the top ten and without we can’t get there.’ He said he would stay here and once the transfer window was over he wrote me a message saying: ‘Ok Andres, now let’s make the top 10’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how well Gudmundsson has done for club and country since January, one would expect Genoa’s asking price for the midfielder to have gone up. I would not be surprised if they start off negotiations by demanding £40m for the 26-year-old in the summer.
