Genoa CEO says Dragusin ‘won’t stay too long at Spurs’ in strange interview

Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez has said that Radu Dragusin will not be at Tottenham Hotspur for too long and backed the centre-back to join one of Europe’s top-five clubs in a few years.

Despite being just 21 years of age, Dragusin emerged as a real leader at Genoa during the last 18 months, playing a key role in the club’s promotion to the top flight last season.

The Romanian certainly did not look out of place in Serie A in the first half of this campaign, arguably being one of the best centre-backs on show in the division, which convinced the Lilywhites to bring him to the Premier League.

The former Juventus man is seen by many as a potential future superstar, with his agent Florian Maena even suggesting last week that he sees the centre-back at Real Madrid or Barcelona in three of four years (Mundo Deportivo).

How long will Radu Dragusin be at Tottenham?

That is an opinion Blazquez agrees with, with the Genoa chief suggesting that it is only a matter of time before the youngster moves to one of the best teams in the continent.

He told the Romanian outlet GSP.ro: “Dragusin has great potential and I think he won’t stay too long at Spurs. Radu will reach a top-five European team! I think Tottenham will not be the last destination of his career. I see him at a top-five team in Europe in the future.”

The young defender himself confirmed following his Spurs debut on Sunday that he turned down Bayern Munich to move to the North London club, insisting that he decided to join the Premier League side since they had wanted him for a long time (Independent).

On his side’s decision to sell Dragușin to Tottenham this month, Blazquez said: “We would have gotten more money [from Bayern], a few million, and Radu’s contract would have been better. But we respected his desire to play in the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

These comments might annoy Spurs fans but the reality is that if Dragusin is wanted by the likes of Real Madrid in two or three years, that is excellent news for us as it means that the centre-back would have been a big hit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
