Tottenham receive fantastic news in the pursuit of Koni de Winter

Tottenham Hotspur have just been handed a massive boost as a new report has claimed that a centre-back on the North London club’s radar, Koni de Winter, is expected to put on the shop window this summer.

While Spurs are not short of options in central defence, they might lose a couple of senior men this summer.

Ben Davies is out of contract this June while it has been widely reported over recent days that Cristian Romero wants to leave Tottenham this summer.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Spurs had asked for information about Genoa centre-back Koni De Winter, who has caught the eye since his move from Juventus last summer.

It was subsequently even claimed by some sources that Tottenham had moved into pole position to sign De Winter even though there were no shortage of suitors for the Belgian centre-back.

TuttoMercatoWeb have now handed Spurs a boost in their pursuit of the 22-year-old by revealing that an exit from Stadio Luigi Ferraris is very much on the cards for the defender.

The outlet says that Genoa are in desperate need of cash and want to raise around €50m (£42.4m) from player sales this summer.

The majority of that is expected to come from the sale of De Winter, with Genoa prepared to cash in on the centre-back for just €30m (£25.4m).

That potentially offers the chance to add some quality to the defensive stocks at a relative discount, especially compared to some of the prices mooted for other young centre-backs in the Premier League and across Europe.

Plenty of clubs are queuing up for De Winter

TMW do not specifically name Tottenham Hotspur in their report, but they say that there is quite a bit of interest from England in De Winter.

The outlet claims that ‘several enquiries have already arrived from the Premier League’ for the young defender over recent weeks.

Additionally, both Napoli and Roma have been on De Winter’s trail since January while Inter Milan are also showing ‘strong’ interest in the Belgian.
