Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Toby Alderweireld has signed a new long term contract that will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2023.
The former Ajax man’s future has been the subject plenty of speculation for the past year or so but this news comes as a massive boost for Spurs (Sky Sports).
The Belgian international has showed glimpses of his best form since the arrival of new head coach Jose Mourinho and has put in several outstanding defensive displays.
Some Spurs fans on social media were over the moon over when they heard the news and raved about the 30-year-old’s quality.
A few also questioned if Alderweireld’s decision to put pen to paper on a new deal was more evidence of the alleged falling out between some Spurs stars and Mauricio Pochettino towards the end of his tenure at the club.

It’s Christmas come early as far as I am concerned . For me he is an obvious and outstanding candidate for the captain’s armband now .

Brilliant news about Alderweireld. Chances of him signing a new deal increased significantly since Mourinho was appointed as manager. Absolutely thrilled. All those ‘sign the ting’ replies under his tweets for the last 18 months worked… eventually. #COYS 🇧🇪 pic.twitter.com/K4EO281Brd

Genuinely huge news for Spurs. Alderweireld has probably been one of the most consistent defenders in the PL since his move. Never anything less than excellent. #COYS

Spurs Web Opinion
This news is bigger than any potential signing we could have made in January. Alderweireld is clearly among the best centre halves in the world and on the evidence of his last few performances, he still has a lot left to give. Hopefully, he will win some major trophies in the next couple of years and leave with legendary status.
