Some Spurs fans furious with midfielder for moment against Villa

Some Tottenham fans on social media have been left frustrated with Moussa Sissoko after the midfielder seemed lazy in getting back to prevent Aston Villa from having a shot on goal late in Sunday’s game.

Tottenham put in a spirited display at Villa Park as they kept a clean sheet and registered a comfortable win in the end.

It was the type of performance that Spurs needed after the disastrous week they had with abject performances against both Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb.

Mourinho was rewarded for his decision to hand starts to Giovani Lo Celso, Carlos Vinicius, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga, with the Spurs boss introducing the likes of Ben Davies, Moussa Sissoko and Steven Bergwijn late on to add some energy to the side.

However, Sissoko, who replaced Tanguy Ndombele with less than 10 minutes of normal time left, almost cost his side a goal as he made a rather lethargic attempt to block Ross Barkley’s shot.

Japhet Tanganga had to fling himself across the line of the attempt in order to prevent the Villa midfielder from scoring.

Some Spurs fans on social media questioned what Sissoko brings to the table if he does not put his body on the line and admitted that they would like to see the Frenchman moved on in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think it is a little harsh on Sissoko to criticise him for his effort as the midfielder clearly sees Davies racing ahead of him to get in the line of the shot. Tanganga certainly did brilliantly to block the attempt and Davinson Sanchez was also positioned well to get in the way of the attempt had it squeezed past the 21-year-old.
