‘Gets into trouble’ – On-loan Tottenham criticised for latest performance

Tanguy Ndombele has come under criticism for his performance over the weekend for Napoli, with the midfielder being withdrawn after 57 minutes.

Ndombele has not had the best of starts to his loan spell in Naples but it seemed like he had turned a corner after the display he put in during the Serie A club’s 6-1 win over Ajax in Amsterdam last week.

After replacing Piotr Zielinski at half-time, the midfielder put in an all-action display against the Dutch side, hitting the bar and picking up an assist with a lovely pass using the outside of his boot to Giovani Simeone.

The on-loan Spurs star earned the praise of the Italian press (Gazzetta dello Sport – 05/10/22 via Sport Witness) for his Champions League performance and was subsequently given the nod to start by Luciano Spalletti in the clash against Cremonese on Sunday.

Although Napoli came away with a 4-1 win and maintained their place at the top of the Serie A table, Ndombele did not have a great outing and was hooked before the hour mark.

La Repubblica stated about the 25-year-old’s performance on Sunday: “He gets into trouble in tight spaces and does not find the gear change.”

Ndombele has looked decent when he has come on from the bench on a few occasions for Napoli but he has flattered to deceive when he has started. So, the same question marks remain about the midfielder’s ability to play well for 90 minutes, which was a constant theme during his time at Spurs.
