Tottenham will be asked for a discount on Bryan Gil in the summer transfer window

Girona are reportedly growing in optimism that they will be able to sign Bryan Gil from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer for a lower fee than they previously thought.

One can understand why Bryan Gil was keen to end his Tottenham nightmare last summer, with the winger having the right to feel hard done by after being overlooked by three different managers.

The 23-year-old has once again demonstrated his class on loan at Girona this season, with his performances seeing him win back a place in the Spanish national side.

The La Liga club have the option to sign the winger permanently at the end of the season, but they are now eyeing a discounted deal according to the latest update from Spain.

Girona believe they can sign Bryan Gil on the cheap

This update comes from Estadio Deportivo, who point out that Girona’s purchase option for Gil stands at €15m (£12.4m), with the clause becoming active in the summer.

The Spanish side believes that the Tottenham man’s signing is ‘within reach’, but they do not have any plans to exercise the option to buy.

Instead, they want to go back into the negotiating table with Spurs as they believe that they can sign the player for a lower fee.

The outlet says that with Gil entering the final year of his contract with Spurs this summer, the North London club will ‘lose their position of strength’ during the negotiations, thus handing Girona an advantage.

Tottenham will be hoping for a bidding war

Spurs are certainly not in a strong negotiating position, given Bryan Gil’s contract situation, but they would hope that a few La Liga clubs step forward to show interest in the attacker on the back of his impressive performances this season.

However, the final decision might ultimately come down to the former Sevilla man, who has plenty of power to dictate his next destination as he can threaten to run down his contract and leave N17 on a free transfer.
