Girona will ‘talk about’ signing Tottenham Hotspur player this summer

Girona president Delfí Geli has made an admission about the future of Tottenham’s Bryan Gil at a time when reports have cast doubt over whether the winger will join the La Liga side permanently in the summer.

Gil had impressed right from day one at Girona, not only emerging as one of the club’s best players but also forcing himself back into the Spanish national team set-up.

A permanent departure from Tottenham Hotspur this summer seemed inevitable for the winger, but that is no longer the case as the 24-year-old picked up a knee injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Over recent days, it has been reported that Girona are now unlikely to activate their €15m (£12.5m) option to buy Gil, which potentially complicates life for Tottenham heading into the summer.

Girona president makes admission about Gil

The previously mentioned report explained that Girona may look at other alternatives instead of the Spurs man in the summer as they know that he might not be fit until at least midway into their pre-season campaign.

Now Girona president Delfi Geli has broken his silence on the former Sevilla man’s future, explaining that while he is rated very highly by head coach Michel, the club will only make a decision on the player at the end of the season.

When asked if Gil will sign from Tottenham at Estadi Montilivi beyond the end of this season, Geli told Esports COPE: “He’s a player the coach trusted. The important thing is that he recovers well. He’s a loan player who has performed well.

“We’ll have to talk about it when the time comes. We’re finishing the season and getting the points will give us peace of mind. From here on, we can plan calmly.”

Will Tottenham lower their asking price for Bryan Gil?

With Gil entering the final year of his deal this summer, Spurs have no choice but to cash in on him.

The winger’s injury will undoubtedly lower his valuation, with Tottenham potentially having to settle for a lower fee than £12.5m.

While Girona might not pay that permanent clause, they might come to the negotiating table in the summer to sign the Spain international on a discount.
