‘Give 100 per cent’ – Sandro on what he loves about Richarlison on the pitch

Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro has said that Richarlison is key to Brazil’s hopes of going all the way in the World Cup and praised the forward for his willingness to leave everything on the pitch for his country.

Sandro was a fan favourite during his four and a half years at White Hart Lane and was a regular in Brazil’s squad at the time, winning 17 caps for his country between 2009 and 2012.

The midfielder, who will be cheering the Selecao on in Qatar, has now talked about the importance of another Spurs star in Richarlison.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form for Tite’s men in 2022, having scored seven goals in five appearances during the calendar year and he is expected to lead the line in their tournament opener against Serbia this evening.

Sandro explained that he sees a bit of himself in the Spurs forward, given the way he fights for every ball on the pitch.

The 33-year-old told Tottenham’s official website about Richarlison: “Brazil fans love him. It’s putting a lot of expectation on him, but I believe he can handle this very well. Everyone looks at Neymar, but it’s Richarlison as well. He’s doing well. I hope he starts well, with power.

“Maybe the injury break might have done him some good, because he was able to rest a little. I think myself and Richarlison are similar in mindset.

“My attitude was always when I’m on the pitch, I’m going to give 100 per cent, all the time. He’s like that. He does everything, always trying, back and forward, giving everything. You know football means so much to him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Every single Brazilian journalist and former player seems to mention how loved Richarlison is back in his home country for his commitment to the cause. It is very similar to what most Everton fans said about the 25-year-old.

That is why I am in no doubt that the forward will become a huge fan favourite among the Spurs faithful over the coming years, just as Sandro was during his time at the club.
