Some Tottenham fans on social media have called for Jose Mourinho to give opportunities to Japhet Tanganga at right-back after reports emerged that the Tottenham boss stopped the defender from leaving the club on loan.
Tanganga suffered multiple injury problems at the start of the season and has not played a single minute of Premier League football so far this campaign.
It was reported on transfer deadline day that both Southampton and West Brom were looking to take the 21-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season.
However, The Athletic revealed that Mourinho did not allow the Tottenham academy graduate to leave.
Spurs have had some issues at right-back recently, with Serge Aurier being left out of the squad for the trip to Brighton and Matt Doherty’s form leaving a lot to be desired.
Some fans believe that Tanganga deserves an opportunity to play at right-back, while a few others even insisted that the youngster should start ahead of the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez in central defence.
Certainly would rather see him play right back than the likes of Sissoko and Doherty if Aurier’s going to be left out the squad regularly now

Hopefully he becomes our starting right back https://t.co/NSUtaHrxQv

Jose needs to give Japhet a run of games, was quality last season when called upon and think he could do well

Play Tanganga at right back and Dele behind striker watch the improvement

If this is true, he needs to give him a chance in the starting XI, because it won’t be hard to be better than Dier and Sanchez atm. Play him either with Toby as experience or give him and Rodon a chance to make a partnership. Honestly cannot be worse than the defence is now #THFC https://t.co/kTXWhtVvts

Good. Just play him right back for the rest of the season. Every minute, of every game. https://t.co/T2eLtwTfYr

Give him more chances than Toby, Dier and Sanchez then, rather than just sticking him on the bench when one of those 3 are injured https://t.co/GE90lhEfR6

Good. The man needs to be our main right back for now

Japhet best RB we got

Can he really be any worse than Doherty and aurier. Might as well try him at right back and see. Didn’t mourinho say he sees him more as a full back

I might be reading to far into this but is it possible that this is because he plans on playing Aurier less because of what happened against LFC ?

Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Jose has tended to favour a back three recently, as well as the various problems we have had at right-back, it is understandable why the Tottenham boss wanted to hang on to Tanganga as a precaution. The 21-year-old will get opportunities to impress in the Europa League and it is up to him to show Jose that he can be trusted.
