‘Give it your all’ – Pundit says Tottenham player needs to settle before he can give 100 percent

Former Romanian international Gabriel Tamas has said that Radu Dragusoin would have got a stern reality check in his first Premier League start against Fulham last month.

It has not been all smooth sailing for Dragusin in his first few months at Spurs, with the centre-back having had to wait patiently for his first start since arriving at the club.

He finally got his chance against Fulham due to Micky van de Ven’s injury and it was a baptism by fire for the 22-year-old at Craven Cottage, with the home side emerging 3-0 winners.

The former Genoa man came in for quite a bit of criticism after the Fulham game (Robbie Mustoe – The 2 Robbies podcast) but he redeemed himself in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Luton Town last Saturday, producing a solid display alongside Cristian Romero.

Dragusin dropped back to the bench for Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at the London Stadium on Tuesday, with Van de Ven coming back into the side as expected.

Radu Dragusin needs time to settle at Spurs

Tamas, who has tasted Premier League football with both West Brom and Watford, insisted that it was always going to take the Spurs man a while to settle into his new surroundings and produce his best.

The 40-year-old told Pro Sport: “I think he (Dragusin) realised it after the Fulham game, it’s a different pace of play. No player can give 100% from the off. I say that from my own experience, because I’ve been that and I’ve seen what happens.

“You don’t get used to the weather, you don’t like the food, the family doesn’t like it, the girlfriend, the wife, the child, there are many factors. Slowly but surely you have to overcome them, get comfortable and make yourself at home to be able to give it your all.”

Dragusin is still very young and unlike Van de Ven, the Romanian did not have the luxury of having a pre-season with the squad, having arrived through the door in January.

It is only normal that he takes some time to adjust to Tottenham’s system and Premier League football but I thought he showed some promising signs against Luton.
