‘Give you wings’ – Conte opens up on his ‘incredible welcome’ from Spurs fans

Antonio Conte has opened up on his ‘magnificent obsession’ with striving for success and feels the Tottenham fans will be able to give him a boost along the way.

Conte, 52, was appointed as Spurs’ new manager earlier this month and is the latest man to attempt to change the club’s fortunes around following a tough couple of seasons.

However, he has already started to understand the sheer task ahead of him at Spurs, after the N17 side suffered a humiliating 2-1 defeat on Thursday to Slovenian minnows NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.

The Italian has a track record of improving clubs in periods of difficulty and he pledged his commitment to working for that same goal in North London.

On his arrival at Spurs, Conte has constantly reiterated the importance of working hard in everyone’s journey to achieving improvement and success.

In an interview with Sportweek (via Gazzetta dello Sport), he said: “I never stop growing, updating myself, finding new solutions. I study football every day. It is my life, my passion, my job, my magnificent obsession. To stay on top, you never have to sit down.”

Despite his previous allegiance with Chelsea, Conte was handed a raucous welcome to N17 upon his first game in charge against Vitesse Arnhem earlier this month.

He admitted the greeting is something he will continue to hold within himself going forward, which will go a long way to pushing him to achieve as much as possible with the club.

Conte added: “They [Spurs fans] gave me an incredible welcome, a great feeling was created immediately. The fans in that stadium are able to give you wings.”

Managers like Conte don’t come around too often, so we have to make the most of it. But he isn’t a miracle worker and he needs to have as much support behind him – both from the fans and behind the scenes from the board.
