Glenn Hoddle claims Tottenham 2020 signing has ‘gone off the boil’ of late

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle believes Spurs left-back Sergio Reguilon has ‘gone off the boil completely’ of late.

Spurs signed Reguilón in 2020 from Real Madrid for a fee that could rise to around £32 million, with teammate Gareth Bale also joining on loan that summer.

The Spaniard got off to a flying start to his Tottenham career under Jose Mourinho but a muscle injury in January halted his progress.

Reguilon returned from this setback and rejoined a Spurs team in terrible form under The Special One and he, arguably, has not recreated his fine early form since.

Like most of the Tottenham defenders this season, Reguilon played well in the opening three Premier League fixtures but, since the win over Watford, Spurs have shipped nine goals in three games and only scored one.

Reguilon at least provided the assist for Heung-min Son in the 3-1 loss to North London rivals Arsenal on Sunday with a neat pull back to the South Korean.

Speaking about the Spanish full-back, Hoddle told Optus Sport: “Reguilon came in, did very well, he competes well, gets forward, gets crosses in, he has gone off the boil.

“There are a lot of players at Tottenham at the moment who have just gone off the boil completely.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Sergio Reguilón is a top-quality left-back. He is going through a rough patch at the club but so is nearly every player. He is one of the few players at the moment who is guaranteed a starting position as he offers a lot more than Ben Davies.
