Tottenham Hotspur slumped to a 1-0 Europa League defeat at Royal Antwerp last night which saw Jose Mourinho make four changes at half time.
A poor first-half display saw Spurs trail to Lior Refaelov’s 29th-minute strike and they failed to pose any real threat to the Belgian’s goal despite having the likes of Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn, Carlos Vinicius and Dele Alli in the starting eleven.
Mourinho appeared to be far from impressed from what he had witnessed in the opening forty five minutes and hauled off four players, including Dele who was replaced by Heung-min Son.
The midfielder was handed just his third start of the season and did little to force his way back into contention.
Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle, who was part of the BT Sport punditry panel claimed that the England international failed to make the most of his opportunity and believes that there are currently issues with his all-round game.
Hoddle told BT Sport: “I think it is (becoming an issue). This was his opportunity, and Jose would’ve put him in there tonight, thinking, ‘Okay, have a great game, score a goal maybe.’
“But it just didn’t happen for him. At the moment, in his all-round game, he’s giving the ball away too many times.
“The options are there, he’s trying his best but it’s not happening for him.”
"Sloppy play like that is not going to get him back in the team."
