‘Going gets tough’ – Gary Neville takes swipe at Spurs at Labour Party fundraiser

Gary Neville criticised the performance of Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak during a Labour Party fundraiser earlier this week, comparing his work to that of Tottenham.

Sunak is one of a number of government ministers that have recently come under fire for their lack of financial support to those struggling to keep up with the UK’s rising costs of living.

And former Manchester United defender Neville, speaking at a Labour dinner alongside party leader Sir Kier Starmer, compared the politician’s alleged shortcomings of late in football terms to that of a Spurs player.

He said (via GB News): “If Rishi Sunak was a footballer he’d be playing for Tottenham. He looks good but when the going gets tough he does one.”

Neville’s sneaky jibe comes on the back of Tottenham’s failure to perform on the big stage when it matters over recent campaigns.

Spurs have now gone more than 13 years since their last piece of major silverware, which came in the form of a League Cup against Chelsea in 2008.

Spurs just can’t get away from receiving hits from everywhere – even when it comes to the political landscape.

Unfortunately, they have in a way brought it upon themselves as they have massively underachieved in terms of honours, which is something that needs to be addressed pretty quickly.
