‘Going to have to’ – Pundit reveals who he would appoint if he was Levy

Gabriel Agbonlahor has insisted that he would give the Spurs job to Ryan Mason if he was in Daniel Levy’s shoes, with pre-season now almost upon us.

After Tottenham failed with their attempts to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to the club and fell short in their pursuit of Antonio Conte, the club also called off talks with both Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso.

Previously, Spurs had also lost out to Bayern Munich in the race for Julian Nagelsmann while Brendan Rodgers ruled himself out of running for the job, expressing his desire to continue with his project at Leicester.

According to reports, Nuno Espirito Santo and Graham Potter are now the front-runners for the role but there is now not long to go until pre-season begins ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Agbonlahor has claimed that time has run out for the Tottenham hierarchy to continue looking and insisted that the club have to now make a decision.

The former Aston Villa striker told Football Insider: “It’s just a shambles there at the moment, if I was them I’d probably just give it to Ryan Mason.

“There’s that many candidates that have turned them down.

“Pre-season starts in about a week so they’re probably going to have to give it to somebody else.

“It’s such a shame it’s come to this for Spurs and their fans. They need to sort something out, for sure.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if the club are not able to find their ideal candidate this summer and choose to go for a temporary stop-gap, I still do not expect the job to go to Ryan Mason.

I wonder if the idea of potentially making another attempt for Pochettino next summer would be at the back of Levy’s mind. However, it remains to be seen whether the Argentine would want to work in a director of football structure under Paratici.
