‘Going to nick it’ – Jonathan Woodgate makes top-four race prediction

Jonathan Woodgate has claimed that Arsenal look the most likely team to clinch fourth place and the final Champions League qualification spot this season.

The race for the fourth looks set to go down to the wire, with Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham and Spurs separated by just three points heading into the weekend.

Tottenham’s clash against United looks set to be a six-pointer as not only can the two clubs close the gap with the Gunners in the race for fourth but they could also strike a blow to the ambitions of a direct rival.

United will be hoping to bounce back after being thrashed in the Manchester derby last weekend while the Lilywhites will look to build on the momentum they gained after thrashing Everton 5-0 on Monday night.

However, Woodgate believes that neither United nor Tottenham have shown the kind of consistency needed to sneak into the top four.

The former Spurs defender insisted that Mikel Arteta deserves a lot of plaudits should he steer the Gunners to the Champions League.

When asked if Tottenham can finish in the top four, Woodgate told GentingBet: “If they become more consistent, but we’ve been saying it all season on Spurs, they’re very inconsistent.

“Really inconsistent, like United, Arsenal at times can be inconsistent, but Arsenal, they’re fourth at the minute and they look like the ones who are going to nick it.

“And if they do finish fourth, what a job Arteta has done from the start of the season they had.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Arsenal look the favourites to clinch the fourth spot, irrespective of who wins the clash at Old Trafford on Saturday. However, Spurs have a chance to effectively put United out of the running for fourth with a win on Saturday.

Not only would a defeat to Conte’s men leave United with too many points to make up but it would also be a massive blow to their squad’s confidence on the back of the thrashing at the Etihad last week.
