‘Going to win’ – Paul Merson makes confident prediction ahead of Spurs vs Man Utd

Paul Merson has backed Manchester United to get all three points against Tottenham Hotspur this evening to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a managerial lifeline.

The game later today is a crucial match for both Solskjaer and Nuno Espirito Santo, who have come under fire over recent weeks.

According to reports, the Norwegian could face an increased threat of losing his job if United fall to another defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick and Fabrizio Romano (Here We Go Podcast – starting at 15:25) have both claimed said that Nuno is not under any threat of losing his job for the moment, with Spurs viewing the project as a long-term one.

However, the Portuguese coach needs to turn around performance and results soon he is to win over the Tottenham faithful.

Spurs will be looking to get back on track in the Premier League following their loss against West Ham on Sunday but they will take heart from the win at Turf Moor in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Merson believes that United will bounce back after their thrashing at the hands of Liverpool to beat Tottenham.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “Manchester United have a way of finding results in games like these.

“But if they do lose to Spurs and keep Solskjaer in this job, they aren’t going anywhere, are they? They can’t keep drifting along like this – it’s already November!

“This is a must-win game for Manchester United. They just seem to find results in difficult situations, and I think that’s what will happen here.

“Manchester United are going to win this game, and it’ll paper over the cracks yet again.

“They did manage a victory against Atalanta in the Champions League, and I think they’ll pull off something similar this weekend. Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Manchester United.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Nuno might not be in any immediate danger of being sacked, the backlash from the fan base will be quite considerable if we do lose against United. It is difficult to see how Nuno will be able to recover from another loss, especially if the performance is as poor as the ones against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.
