Gomes admits Spurs are missing Defoe

Jermain Defoe

Heurelho Gomes admits that Tottenham are missing the presence of Jermain Defoe in attack.

The striker is still sidelined after ankle surgery, but could be back in action in early December.

There’s no doubt that we’re missing Defoe’s clinical finishing in attack, but Gomes believes it’s up to the rest of the squad to fill the void in front of goal.

“We miss him a lot because he is a goal- scorer,” said Gomes. “All the time when a player gives him the ball you expect something.

“Of course we miss him, but we have to keep going and other players have to try to score goals for us.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I wouldn't describe Defoe as 'clinical', but we are missing the option to play with more pace, movement and willingness to pull the trigger. Other point to note is that it is an ANKLE injury – how clinical will he be? Would he be blasting the ball like before? Shooting foot or standing foot it will be tough.

  2. Why is our Octopus spreading his tentacles firstly he his saying i hope we keep Bale and then he his saying we should buy more stars and now we are missing Defoe he should concentrate on keeping a clean sheet .

  3. Dav – not much Gomes could have done about most of the goals he has conceded. Although he does not look as immense as he was in the latter half of last season.
