Gomes open to Spurs stay after Harry exit

Heurelho Gomes - Tottenham Hotspur news

Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes admits that he could possibly still have a future at the club following the departure of Harry Redknapp.

Harry signed Brad Friedel last summer to become Tottenham’s new number one and to be fair to Brad he had a solid season for us in goal with nowhere near the amount of howlers we used to witness from Gomes.

Gomes admits that he was desperate to depart the Lane after failing to make one Premier League appearance for us last season and is determined to force his way back into international contention with Brazil.

It will be interesting to see if whoever comes in does give Gomesa anotehr chance to prove his worth.  Yes, Friedel is in the twilight of his career but he proved last season that he is still a top keeper – will Gomes be willing to sit on the sidelines for another season?  We very much doubt it.

“It was a very hard season, I was desperate to leave,” Gomes told Arena Sportv. “Now things have changed as the manager left last week.”

He added: “I want to return to the national team but I have to play first.

“Once I’m playing again, my focus will be on returning to the national team. I know how good it is to be there.

“Of course, they are rejuvenating the national team, but I’m only 31, which is a good age. I’ll do very well this season.”
