Some Tottenham fans on social media are delighted to hear that Eric Dier has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the club.
Dier has been used as a centre-half since the restart of the season and put in some impressive displays before being handed a four-match ban by the FA for an altercation with a fan in the west stand following the loss to Norwich back in March.
The England international has looked dominant in the heart of the Spurs defence, although he was among those culpable for Tottenham’s defensive frailties in their 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United at the start of the month.
Jose Mourinho admitted recently that the 26-year-old is an important part of his plans and he was hopeful that he could agree to a new deal with the club (Goal.com).
However, the club have confirmed today that the former Sporting Lisbon man has agreed to a new contract that runs until 2024.
Here’s how some Spurs fans on social media reacted to the news:
A fully fit Eric Dier is good and proper COYS so I'm all for this https://t.co/NBAtxXQh16

Good for Dier… we have looked better without him though 🙈

Dier is a player you can always count on to give 100% when he puts on the shirt. He’s had problems with injuries in the last couple of seasons, but here’s hoping he can become an important player for us again. pic.twitter.com/S5vNZvRoJB

Happy about this, I’ve always liked Dier (despite the odd moment!) Not too sure on the central defender role, but time will tell. https://t.co/oQ34iaKHV3

Spurs Web Opinion
Dier has outperformed expectations in central defence but I can certainly see why some Spurs fans want Alderweireld to continue starting games as he brings composure to our backline. I think Toby and Dier can be a great pairing given the 26-year-old’s physical prowess and the Belgian international’s positioning and reading of the game.
