‘Good energy’- Heung-min Son comments on Antonio Conte’s return to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-min Son has been speaking to the press ahead of the Champions League clash with AC Milan tomorrow, and has commented about how he feels to have manager Antonio Conte back at the club.

Conte was in his native Italy for the past month as he continued his recovery from surgery to remove his gallbladder while assistant manager Cristian Stellini has been overseeing the first team in Conte’s absence.

The Italian returned to the club on Sunday, and is now preparing his squad for the crucial return fixture of the second round tie with AC Milan. Spurs need to overturn a one goal deficit from the San Siro in order to qualify for the quarter finals.

Son has been having a difficult season, with just nine goals across all competitions so far this term (Transfermarkt). The South Korean star has been a shadow of his former self, and has been dropped to the bench recently.

Speaking to Football.London about the impact Conte’s return will have, Son said: “It’s important. I’m glad that the manager is sitting next to me. He brings good energy to the team.

“When the boss isn’t here it’s different. Yesterday we could feel that energy and his passion on the touchline we’ll feel more comfortable.”

Conte had been absent from the dugout since Tottenham’s Champions League last-16 first leg against AC Milan, with the head coach forced to watch on from Italy.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really hope the return of Antonio Conte is the kind of boost all the players need. Everyone has looked really lethargic and low these last two games and they need to step up and put in a good performance tomorrow and get us through to the next round.

It will be interesting to see if Sonny can win back his place in the starting line up now that Conte is back and watching training.

When he’s full of confidence and firing on all cylinders, Son can still be incredibly dangerous and hopefully, Conte can bring that out in him.
