‘Good fit’ – Postecoglou explains why he wanted Timo Werner at Tottenham

It has been a busy start to the month for Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer market, and it all started with the loan signing of Timo Werner. Ahead of the weekend’s Premier League action, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has discussed why he wanted to sign the 27-year-old.

It was well known that Spurs were keen to sign a wide attacker during the January transfer window, but nobody saw a move for Timo Werner coming.

The reports first broke last weekend, and Tottenham acted swiftly to tie up a six-month loan deal for the former Chelsea man. The switch will see Spurs paying Werner’s salary until the end of the season, and there is a purchase option worth around £14.6m included (Fabrizio Romano).

So far, it seems Werner and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou are a match made in heaven. Apparently, Postecoglou was a ‘big advocate’ of the move (Philipp Hinze), and Werner himself is confident he can work well in Tottenham’s current system (Fabrizio Romano).

According to a report in The Athletic, we can expect to see Werner thrive under Postecoglou, due to his range of attributes and also down to his amiable personality.

Postecoglou happy with Timo Werner signing

Speaking to the press today (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked about the decision to sign Timo Werner and why he thinks it was the right move for the club.

He said: “I thought it was a really good opportunity. I had a good chat with Johan about it and I felt Timo would be a really good fit for us.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Timo Werner wasn’t half as bad as people make out during his time at Chelsea, and in a system that better suits his style of play, and with confidence and positivity around him, I have faith he will flourish at Spurs.
