Good news for Spurs as journalist says Gift Orban is keen on joining the club

Ben Jacobs has claimed that Gift Orban wants to move to Tottenham but Gent’s asking price will be the determining factor in whether the deal goes through.

Over the last couple of days, several outlets have claimed that Spurs are hesitant to meet Gent’s €30m (£25.5m) asking price for Orban (Voetbalkrant) while the North London club are also said to be facing competition from the likes of Fulham and Lille for the striker (De Morgen).

With little over a week left until the transfer window slams shut, it remains to be seen if Tottenham are able to strike a deal for the 21-year-old, who has set the Belgian top-flight elite since moving to Gent back in January.

Price the determining factor in Gift Orban deal

Jacobs has now said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast (starting at 1:23:31) that while the Lilywhites’ interest in Orban is ‘very real’, the deal depends on the Belgian club’s asking price for the player.

The journalist explains that the question is whether Tottenham deem the Nigerian to be worth over £25m, given that he has not played in any of Europe’s top-five leagues so far.

Jacobs adds that Orban himself wants the move and suggests that Gent might also insist on adding a sell-on clause to any deal for the centre-forward.

Spurs Web Opinion

I find it ridiculous that some fans are just demanding that the club pay up the £30m for Orban after just watching some YouTube videos of the striker.

While the 21-year-old looks like a talented prospect, we have no way of knowing whether he could deliver in the Premier League. Tottenham might well decide that it would be a safer bet to spend £45m-£50m on Jonathan David than £30m on Orban.
