‘Good option’ – Conte on playing with a midfield three against Arsenal

Antonio Conte has opened up on the possibility of playing with a midfield three against Arsenal in the North London Derby this weekend.

Since the Italian joined Spurs, he has often chosen a 3-4-3 formation with a consistent duo in midfield, which has been Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur since the Uruguayan joined in January.

Despite Oliver Skipp returning from injury and Yves Bissouma being signed from Brighton this summer, Conte has rarely turned to a midfield three so far this season.

However, Spurs fans were given a taste of the change in formation in the latter stages of the Leicester City match, with Bissouma coming off the bench to offer an extra body in the engine room.

Asked whether he could turn towards a three again this weekend in the derby, Conte admitted it was a good option, not only for Arsenal but other games in the future too.

He said (Football London): “For sure, it can be a good option because we have midfielders who can play as a three. Bissouma when he came in against Leicester he played well and he is really well integrated with Pierre and Bentancur.

“Yeah, this could be an option, not only for tomorrow but for the future because if we need to give rest to other players, especially when you have this type of situation that happened with Kulusevski having a problem.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham looked really in control with the three against Leicester and it arguably got the best out of Son by putting him on the shoulder in a front two, rather than in a deeper pocket. I would love to see it again this weekend, but maybe not from the start.
