‘Good relationship with him’ – Spurs star opens up on Conte’s ‘explosive side’

Emerson Royal has insisted that he maintains a good relationship with Conte even though the Italian has an ‘explosive side’ to him.

Unsurprisingly, multiple outlets (The Guardian and The Sun) have reported over recent days that Conte has lost a portion of the Spurs dressing room with his public attack on the players on Saturday and that some first-team stars would be happy to see the Spurs head coach sacked immediately.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed on Monday that Conte’s rant has not only split the Tottenham fan base but has also created a divide in the dressing room.

However, Emerson insisted that he remains on good terms with the 53-year-old, claiming that the Italian only helps to get the best out of each player.

The right-back, who was recalled to the Brazil squad, told Globo Esporte (21/02/23 as translated by Sport Witness): “As for Conte, I have a good relationship with him, he’s not that coach that we have a very close relationship with, of talking a lot, it’s his way.

“He’s a coach who wants to help everyone, instructs, he shows the role he wants in each one’s game. I don’t see any problem, I have a good relationship with him.

“Conte is a coach who has this explosive side of him, a personality he created, but he is a coach who tries to help us as much as possible.”

Emerson also spoke about Richarlison’s controversial interview following Tottenham’s Champions League exit two weeks ago (ESPN Brazil), suggesting that his compatriot let his emotions get the better of him after a tough evening.

The former Real Betis man added: “As for Richarlison’s interview, I believe he left the game with a hot head.

“I respect the opinion, these are things that came from his heart, he wanted to vent, I don’t know if it was the best way, I’m not the one who will judge the way he said or stopped talking.

“However, you could see, even by the way he speaks, that he was hot-headed after a Champions League elimination.

“We wanted to go further, there were several factors that interfered with that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

What would have not sat well with Spurs players is the fact that Conte seemed to absolve himself and his tactics of any responsibility and pointed the finger entirely at the squad.

The Italian himself has always talked about taking collective responsibility for wins and losses but yet, he was happy to put all the blame on the players when it suited him.
