“Good things will come” – Alderweireld praises work ethic of team-mate

Toby Alderweireld has hailed the hard work that Tanguy Ndombele has put in over recent weeks, with the midfielder seeming to have turned a corner at Tottenham.

Ndombele completed all ninety minutes in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Shkendija last Thursday as well as their win against Chelsea on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

Jose Mourinho praised a midfielder for his performance against the Blues and admitted that there is a lot more to come from him.

Alderweireld insisted that the 23-year-old deserves the plaudits he is getting for the hard work has put in over recent weeks.

When asked about the former Lyon man, the centre-back told Football.London: “It’s his character, his willingness to work for the team. It all starts from there.

“Sometimes it’s not easy but if you work hard, good things will come. He showed that not only today [against Chelsea] but in the last couple of weeks.”

Alderwiereld also hailed the spirit the character that debutant Sergio Reguilon showed against Chelsea, with the left-back playing a big part in Tottenham’s equaliser after being at fault for Chelsea’s opener, when he gave the ball away and was beaten too easily down on his side of the pitch.

When asked about the Spain international’s performance on Tuesday, Alderwireld added: “[Sergio] was very good, he’s very quick, he’s able to go forward and defend.

“He’s in good spirits. Everyone makes mistakes but there was a lot to do after that moment but he showed today he has a lot of potential to help us and be good in that position.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndombele is clearly a popular member of the Spurs dressing room, with his teammates seemingly enjoying his recent success. Jose hinted in his press conference that the midfielder is still not 100 per cent, which suggests that he could go on to have an even bigger impact in matches than he had against Chelsea and the second half against Newcastle. He certainly looks like he will be an important player for us this season.
