‘Google time’ – Some Spurs fans react to defensive transfer rumour

Spurs are being linked with a move for RB Leipzig centre back Dayot Upamecano in the January transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen Tottenham’s back-line.

Express Sport claim that both Tottenham, as well as their North London rivals Arsenal, are prepared to meet Leipzig’s whopping £50million valuation for Upamecano next month.

The centre half has been outstanding for Leipzig for the last couple of seasons and established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga.

Spurs have experienced problems in defence with Mourinho admitting recently that the team’s recent defensive struggles have created some doubts in his mind, notably against Norwich where both of the Canaries goals came from two Spurs errors (Daily Mail).

Some Spurs fans were unsure how to react to the rumour as they hadn’t watched Upamecano in action before. Others, however, insisted that the 21-year-old would be a smart addition to the squad given the side’s recent defensive problems.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the transfer rumours over the past few weeks, it is clear that we are looking towards the French market for defenders which is not surprising given it is a league that Joao Sacramento knows very well. With Vertonghen looking like he is past his best, we could certainly do with a top central defender in January or next summer.
